Today is my youngest son's third birthday! Unlike his past birthdays, we're celebrating this one on the road in Portugal. It really has just hit me how much traveling he has already done in his three short years, from getting on his first plane to El Salvador at 4 months for his Uncle's wedding, to vacationing in Costa Rica, exploring the South of France, and then moving to Paris and traveling within Europe from there.
Not bad considering I didn't get on an airplane until I was 18!
We considered having a celebration for him here, but decided it wasn't worth trying to bring and hide gifts here only to have to take them back home with us. We're going to take him out for ice cream today, and wait until we're back in Paris to have a more formal celebration with cake and gifts. Finding gluten free cakes or pastries in Portugal isn't easy, and I don't want our older son to be left out of the fun.
So we'll have some ice cream, pick him up a Portugal jersey as a souvenir/birthday gift, and let him run around a park before taking the metro over the bridge in Porto and riding the cable car. He also has a Skype date with Grandma and Grandpa in Canada. Maybe we'll even let him stay up late tonight and catch the sunset over Porto before heading back to the apartment for a quick snack before bed.
Not a bad way to ring in the big 3!
Happy Birthday little guy. Mommy loves you.
